After King Saul lost his life on the battlefield, the Philistines came along to gather anything of value among the fallen. While walking among the corpses they found the banquished King. Here we read:
They stripped Saul, cut off his head, took his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to spread the good news to their idols and their people. (1 Chronicles 10:9 HCSB)
I find it interesting that the Philistines had to spread the good news TO their gods. There could only be a few reasons why they felt that necessary:
1. They did not know!
2. They needed good news!
Whatever the reason, it only underlines the fact that their idols were only lifeless lumps containing no power! The spirits associated with these idols were equally limited in their ability to both know and do!
We are, on the other hand, commissioned to spread the good news OF our God TO the world! Our God already knows all, and has in turn sent us to a lost world so that they might KNOW HIM!
How great is our GOD!!!
