Like many people, carving out time for certain tasks requires a discipline that is hard to find. So it is, that I find myself at a forced 'pause' and in order to redeem the time I will continue to ponder things pertaining to the will and call of God. So... Sitting in an airport in Bangor, Maine ~ heading to St. Louis for a Global Missions Orientation ~ I move closer to the realization of this dream called Mission Senegal.
The coming together of God's plan is sometimes highlighted by small events that simply remind you that your steps are ordered by the Lord. An example of this occurred early this morning, where after a short, 4 hour, night of sleep I awoke to find some sample graphics for "Mission Senegal" in my email inbox! I was like a child on Christmas morning - the grin on my face revealed the joy of unwrapping this gift!!
The question remains, how can one know that they are in the will of God. How can we hear the voice of God, recognize it AS the voice of God and then move forward in it. I firmly believe that one of the greatest keys to remaining in the will of God is to remain at all times in a state of obedience. Whether to the Word, the Church, the Shepherd God has placed in your life, or the principles and convictions already in place in your life you have to be walking in harmony with what is, in all essence, the present will of God. At that moment, all God is asking of you is to do what you are asked.
It is a simple reality, seen personified in multiple lives, that if you cannot do the things that you are being asked to do presently, it is highly unlikely that you will proceed to the next phase in God's will for your life. I have never witnessed someone who fought those around them, doing their own thing, resisting the voices that God placed in their lives, who could successfully navigate what God desired for them. None among the children of God ever grow to the point where they are free from the 'obligations of submission'. Jesus instructed us that it was only to those who were faithful in the small things that greater tasks would be given. Having served in a variety of roles, both as a leader and a servant, I have realized that whether I am in agreement or not, whether I like it or not, "to obey is better than sacrifice!"
So, you want to find God's will for your life? So, you want to obey the call of God to the next level? It starts right here and right now. It starts with that mundane, menial task that your pastor asks of you. It is the call for the cup of water from a stranger. It it found in every opportunity to presented to you to serve someone, or something, outside of yourself!!
